The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce the recruitment of a Veterans Benefit Specialist 2 supporting veterans in King County.

Please note: This position is Project in accordance with WAC 357-19-305.

_This position is expected to last until December 31st 2018. _

The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) is comprised of more than 800 dedicated staff who strives to fulfill WDVA's mission of "Serving Those Who Served." To achieve this mission, WDVA provides critical services to veterans and their families, both in the community and among four veterans' homes within the State of Washington. WDVA is a national leader in the quality of and advocacy for veterans claims submitted to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, reaching out to Washington's more than 600,000 veterans.

WDVA operates four veterans' homes in Port Orchard, Orting, Spokane, and Walla Walla providing Medicare and Medicaid nursing care for honorably discharged veterans, to include, in some instances, their spouses, widows or gold star parents.

Some of what you will be doing: This position supports the agency mission of Serving Those Who Servedby performing outreach to veterans, military service members including members of the National Guard and Reserves, and their families in King County.

Key Responsibilities: Perform outreach to National Guard armories and Reserve bases to interview and assess veterans, military service members, and their families to determine eligibility for veterans benefits__and services.

Develop case plans for program enrollees and ensure they follow through with the plan; coordinate support services identified by assessments to meet case plan goals to include mental health and substance abuse issues.

Provide case management to enrollees to meet individual social, employment, financial. substance abuse and mental health needs.

Uses electronic systems to maintain confidential records and case management plans for clients and completes program related reports.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in counseling, business administration, public administration, social science or closely allied filed. OR Two years of experience as a veterans Benefit Specialist 1 in state service.

Professional related experience may be substituted, year for year, for education, such as experience as an Accredited Veteran Service Organization Representative or Veteran Service Officer.

Preferred Qualifications:

Accredited Veteran Service Organization Representative.

Two or more years' experience in performing individual case management services with a social services provider.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
