Neighborcare Health Site Medical Director - Rainier Beach Medical Clinic in Seattle, Washington

The Site Medical Director (SMD) is responsible and accountable for leading the delivery of high quality, patient-centered, and community-based comprehensive primary care at his/her clinical site. The SMD is responsible to provide site and program leadership to ensure clinical services meet Neighborcare Health’s goals for patient access, patient experience, and quality care outcomes in a fiscally efficient manner. The SMD represents Neighborcare Health’s site medical programs to the community.

The SMD will lead an innovative and adaptive health care team that is patient and community focused.

The position provides an opportunity to lead in a health care organization whose mission is to advocate and work with patients, communities, programs and systems of care to reduce health disparities and improve overall health status. The SMD is a critical clinical leader who will help create and lead the vision, direction, and change that is necessary to reach the organization’s goals in a clinic setting. In this work, the SMD will effectively partner with a Clinic Administrator and other Neighborcare Health Leaders.

SMD Responsibilities

Embodies a leadership style that enables other leaders and supports the team model:

  • Be the clinical leader for Neighborcare Health’s medical services at the clinical site.

  • Lead in assuring primary care and clinical services and programs provided are meeting or exceeding Neighborcare Health standards of care and access. Partner effectively partner with site Clinic Administrator in this work.

  • Effectively partner with Site Dental Director, where applicable, to coordinate and collaborate to ensure high quality care for the whole patient.

  • Assure our clinical programs meet the highest standards of care using evidence based, community standards or best practice care models.

  • Lead clinic Quality, Quality Assurance and Safety programs that reduce risk to patient care at the clinic and site level.

  • Lead medical systems of care at the site or clinic to assure the care teams are continuously improving and learning in alignment with our organization Lean-based principles and methods.

  • Effectively use performance management when standards are not being met. You will take the lead in these conversations and actions.

  • Integrate clinical care in service to achieving whole person care at the site, such as behavioral health, oral health, or with strategic partners that are at co-located practices.

  • Follow the standards for clinical practice, programs, and clinicians to achieve excellence in both care and patient experience.

  • Establish and maintain effective positive working relationships with all lead and care team members, and Neighborcare Health support programs (HR, IT, Finance, Billing, etc.).

  • Integrate and model Service Commitments into daily work, encouraging and reinforcing Service Commitment behaviors in the provider team; nurture a work environment that expressly demonstrates Service Commitments.

  • Oversee recruiting of site physicians, nurse practitioners and PA-Cs provider staff including recruitment, hiring, orientation, supervision, coaching, retention, and performance management, including completion of annual evaluations.

  • Lead to achieve the necessary quality, service, financial, and staff and patient engagement results at the clinical level to assure the clinic or program is thriving.

  • Achieve culturally relevant and sensitive clinical services to the community and people from varied racial, educational and socio-economic backgrounds as well as individuals with disabilities, illness, and/or with chronic health and mental health problems.

Provide site and/or program leadership for patient-centered quality primary care:

  • Deliver high quality clinical care as a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or nurse midwife.

  • Facilitate medical staff and provider meetings.

  • Lead or champion quality improvement efforts and is accountable for clinic results demonstrated through performance metrics.

  • Actively participate in lead team meetings.

  • Provide or delegate supervision of clinical scheduling, call, and leave for medical staff.

  • Problem solve clinic and site level issues.

  • Create collaborative, team-based, and highly engaged work force at the clinic.

  • Develop and maintain cooperative partnerships with internal and external partners.

  • Provide a work environment in which medical providers and clinic teams follow legal and ethical professional standards, abide by all applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, as well as any and all policies adopted by Neighborcare Health.

Education and Experience

Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant-Certified licensed to practice in the state of Washington

Current Board Certification

Current CPR or BLS certification required

DEA License

Five years of progressive Leadership experience

Experience in providing primary care to a low-income, multi-ethnic population preferred

Experience in providing primary care in a community health center preferred
