The Patient Safety Specialist works with various members of the organization's workforce, including physicians, nursing, and administration on processes and strategies related to improving patient safety. Coordinates and facilitates the investigation of quality of care concerns identified through the Patient Safety Alert process or other quality review processes. Provides support on quality and patient safety processes to assist section leadership and organizational committees in their pursuit of quality improvement.


  • Bachelor's degree in business, nursing, or a related field; or equivalent.

  • Certification in risk management a plus.

  • Three to five years experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a patient safety and/or risk management capacity.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to change quickly and positively, and manage conflict.

  • Ability to interact appropriately with staff at all levels.

  • Ability to respond appropriately in stressful situations.

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in nursing or a clinical discipline preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington a plus.
